Egypt's agri exports topped 5M tons in 2026 — citrus leading at 2M+ tons — with 21 new export markets opened in the first half.

Egypt’s agricultural exports have crossed 5 million tons in 2026, with citrus leading at over 2 million tons — and 21 new export markets opened in the first half of the year.

Egypt’s agricultural shipments surpassed 5 million tons so far in 2026, the Ministry of Agriculture confirmed this month. Citrus remained the top category at more than 2 million tons, followed by fresh potatoes at around 883,000 tons and sweet potatoes at about 189,000 tons.

Other notable volumes included fresh onions above 85,000 tons, grapes at 58,000 tons and fresh strawberries at 40,000 tons. The ministry also reported opening 21 new international markets in H1 2026 through its plant-quarantine and market-access work.

What it means for buyers: A widening list of destination markets diversifies Egyptian origin away from any single region’s demand or regulatory swings — and gives importers more confidence in long-term supply continuity from a single sourcing base.
