Three varieties spread Egypt’s harvest and let it lead the early market. Wonderful is the flagship for colour and sweetness; Early 116 opens the season ahead of rivals.
| Variety | Timing | Profile |
|---|---|---|
| Early 116 | Early (from late August) | Opens the season ahead of Spain/Turkey; balanced flavour, high juice |

| Wonderful | Mid–late (from ~10 September) | Main export variety; deep-red arils, sweet-tart, high juice |
Egypt’s Early 116 reaches market before Spanish and Turkish supply, capturing strong early-season demand and pricing. On market access, official entry to China is open, the country has added new outlets such as Venezuela, and the ITC identifies the Netherlands, the UAE and France as the largest near-term growth opportunities — together pointing to room for roughly USD 147 million more in exports by 2028. Beyond fresh fruit, IQF pomegranate arils add a value-added export line (see the frozen & IQF report).
Fresh pomegranate export prices vary widely by variety, calibre and timing within the season. Sampled Egyptian export transactions in late 2025 and early 2026 ranged roughly from below USD 1 to over USD 2.5 per kilogram.

Pomegranates are grown across Upper Egypt, the reclaimed lands and parts of the Delta, with rising area as growers respond to strong global demand for the antioxidant-rich fruit. Egypt’s government applies strict size and quality requirements for export fruit, and growers have invested in achieving larger calibres and consistent brix. Production has been expanding, supported by improved farming techniques.

| Harvest / export season | August–November; Early 116 from late Aug, Wonderful from ~10 Sep |

| Packing | 4–5 kg cartons, count-sized; retail punnets by market |
| Lead ports | Alexandria, Damietta; Red Sea for Gulf/Asia |

The outlook is for continued value growth. Rising area and quality, the early-window advantage, official China access and ITC-flagged EU/Gulf headroom (up to +USD 147 million by 2028) all point upward. The swing factors are achieving larger calibres, EU MRL compliance, and competition from Spain and Turkey on volume. Exporters that combine early-window Early 116 with premium Wonderful and clean compliance are best placed.
