Egypt is one of the world’s leading table-grape exporters. Shipments are forecast at about 220,000 tonnes in 2025/26 (USDA FAS), and Egypt’s May–July window fills a key early-season gap in Europe before Northern-Hemisphere crops begin. Fresh grapes ship under HS 0806.10.
This guide covers Egyptian table-grape varieties, the export season, specifications, packaging, cold chain and compliance for importers and wholesale buyers. For market data and destination shares, see our Egyptian Grape Export Report 2026; for tariff classification, see HS codes for fresh produce.
Egypt has become a strategic early-season origin for table grapes. Its harvest opens when Southern-Hemisphere supply (South Africa, Peru, Chile) is winding down and before European and other Northern-Hemisphere crops begin, giving buyers a reliable bridge from roughly May to July. Production has grown strongly over the past decade on the back of new varieties, modern protected cultivation and improved post-harvest handling.

The Egyptian table-grape harvest runs from late May to November across early and late varieties, with the main export window between May and July. Early cultivars (Early Sweet, Superior, Flame) open the season in May; mid- and late-season varieties (Crimson, Red Globe, Autumn Royal) extend supply through the summer. This early entry is Egypt’s key advantage, as European demand is high and competing origins are limited.

Export-grade Egyptian grapes are grown to international food-safety and phytosanitary standards. Typical requirements include GLOBALG.A.P and related certifications, a phytosanitary certificate, and compliance with destination-market Maximum Residue Levels (MRLs). Egyptian grapes are not on the EU’s enhanced official-controls list (Regulation (EU) 2019/1793), so they are not subject to increased border checks — standard MRL and phytosanitary rules apply. Egypt also enforces plant breeders’ rights, so licensed varieties (such as Early Sweet) are grown under the appropriate agreements. Buyers can request GLOBALG.A.P certificates and residue test results with each shipment.
Sea freight in refrigerated (reefer) containers is the backbone of Egyptian grape exports, with air freight used for premium or spot orders. Transit to Northern Europe is short relative to Southern-Hemisphere origins, which protects shelf life. Where Red Sea routing is disrupted, alternative routings are used. We quote on standard Incoterms (FOB, CFR, CIF, DAP) — see our Incoterms for fresh produce guide. For wider market context, see our Egypt Fresh Produce Export Statistics.
